Valenciaport

Fundación Valenciaport is a research, innovation and training organisation serving the port and logistics cluster of the Port of Valencia. Its mission is to support the competitiveness and sustainable development of the port-logistics sector through applied research, innovation, technical assistance and knowledge transfer.

The Foundation has extensive experience in the coordination and implementation of European and national R&D projects, working closely with port authorities, terminal operators, shipping companies, technology providers, energy companies, research organisations and public administrations.

A major area of activity is the energy transition and decarbonisation of ports, covering renewable energy, hydrogen and alternative fuels, port electrification and shore-side electricity, energy efficiency, smart energy management and the integration of innovative energy technologies into real port environments. Fundación Valenciaport has participated in several large-scale demonstration projects, including the deployment and operation of hydrogen technologies and associated infrastructure in the Port of Valencia.

This combination of technical expertise, project management capabilities and direct access to a major European port ecosystem enables Fundación Valenciaport to act as a bridge between technology developers and real operational environments, facilitating the demonstration, validation and future replication of innovative solutions for port decarbonisation.

  • Role in ELEKTRA project

Within ELEKTRA, Fundación Valenciaport is responsible for hosting and supporting the demonstration of the ammonia-to-hydrogen technology at the Port of Valencia, providing a real port environment for the integration and validation of the project’s pilot system.

Fundación Valenciaport will coordinate the activities required for the deployment of the prototype at the demonstration site, including the definition and preparation of the installation area, coordination with the relevant port stakeholders and technical interfaces, and support for the integration of the ammonia supply and associated infrastructure. The demonstration will build on the existing hydrogen infrastructure and experience developed at the Port of Valencia, contributing to the consolidation of the site as a testing environment for innovative port energy technologies.

Fundación Valenciaport will also contribute to the preliminary safety assessment and site-specific requirements of the installation, working together with the partners responsible for the safety activities and with the organisations involved in the technical implementation and operation of the pilot.

Through the Valencia demonstration, Fundación Valenciaport will provide the port perspective needed to assess the practical integration, operational requirements and potential replicability of ammonia cracking and hydrogen production technologies in port environments, contributing to the evaluation of their future role in the decarbonisation of maritime and port activities.
