ZEFIRA B.V. is a Dutch deep-tech company focused on accelerating industrial decarbonisation through advanced electrified process technologies. By combining membrane reactor engineering, plasma-assisted conversion, and advanced gas separation, ZEFIRA develops integrated solutions for carbon capture and the production of low-carbon fuels and chemicals from CO₂-rich industrial streams.
Within the ELEKTRA project, ZEFIRA is responsible for the development and demonstration of an innovative plasma-assisted CO₂-to-CO recycling technology for blast furnace (BF) and direct reduced iron (DRI) applications. The technology combines plasma activation with membrane-based process integration to convert captured CO₂ into valuable CO, which can be reinjected into industrial processes, reducing coke consumption, lowering hydrogen demand, and contributing to circular carbon utilization.
- Role in ELEKTRA project
ZEFIRA contributes to:
- Development and optimisation of the plasma CO₂ splitting reactor;
- Integration of membrane technologies for process intensification;
- System design and scale-up towards TRL6 demonstration;
- Techno-economic and process integration studies for steel industry applications;
- Contribution to flexible electrified industrial operation compatible with renewable electricity integration.
